PBI's approach to knowledge creation and implementation of results
Our knowledge creation is based on a clinical research approach where two separate processes are integrated - one for knowledge creation and the other for implementing the results.
Creating knowledge
Our knowledge creation is based on two streams: 1) research projects that involve our industrial partners working co-operatively with our international network of collaborating researchers in various universities, and 2) specific development projects and assignments with individual industrial partners. These two streams of projects form the overall platform for generating new knowledge.
The major benefit of this unique, close co-operation between project business firms and academics/scientists is that both scientific and practitioner needs are taken into account. This interaction ensures that the knowledge generated is relevant and novel and has been tested in applied settings during development.
These projects typically involve all levels of our experts: researchers, analysts, and representatives from the participating companies.
To ensure that our knowledge creation is relevant, our professional staff gathers data, makes observations, and testsour methods, concepts, and theories on location in actual businesses. Overall, since 1993, we have over 6000 transcribed interviews with practitioners and have spent over 5000 days of participant observation on projects involving nearly 100 countries.
Implementing knowledge
Concurrent with producing knowledge, the results of our research are tested, improved, and implemented in close co-operation with our business partners. This co-operative approach ensures that our industrial partners obtain novel and unique knowledge that serves to strengthen their competitive advantage. Such co-operation also ensures that our researchers obtain essential feedback from practitioners during the research process.
Ongoing close relationships with our partners are vital to our ability to remain up-to-date and focused on the relevant issues within present and emerging areas of knowledge development. It also means that we acquire deep insight into various firms and business segments.
